To all you fellow Michiganders out there, I think you know what I’m talking about with this one.
Don’t worry, it’s also going to be the hand that will smack some reason into a lot of people. I hope. I hope that Michigan will continue to innovate and see this economic pit as a challenge. I will do my part and try to create some creative outlet, but we need everyone to band together and patch this sinking hand before it’s too late.

Dillinger Escape Plan - Come to Daddy
It’s not new, but that doesn’t change how impressive it is. Amazing cover of Aphex Twin done by an amazingly progressive metal group. The drums are the best part of this song, by far. Listen up for the ridiculous drum machine-esque rhythms.

I will forever be enamored with the beauty of Detroit. From the prominent stadiums and buildings to the slums and old industrial parks. The spirit of this city and this state leave room for hope. We are not the jaded and lost. We are the forlorn, the tragic lovers, the downtrodden waiting to rise. Someday, someday sooner or later we will see the spirit of this people reborn. Us rustbelt warriors will outlast the coasts and ride this great tide through centuries of global tumult. Our hearty exteriors give way to hearts with the capacity to love through the worst of rancor.

What do I do at 4:00 am?
I watch the DVD that comes with Mastodon’s “Crack the Skye.” Maybe it’s my thirst for good heavy music, but I am blown away by these guys. There is a part of the DVD, where they just play all the tracks of the album with band commentary, and it’s blowing me away. The guitar solo on Oblivion is reminiscent of Pink Floyd, and it’s absolutely breath-taking.
If you feel the need to be blown away by music filled with human drama. Please, I urge you, go check out “Crack the Skye.” I love it.
